Valentines Day DIY Banner
February 6, 2018Happy Valentine’s Day! As you probably know by now, I love an easy DIY project. If a craft has too many steps or requires an abundance of supplies, I’ll usually opt out of it and search for something simpler. Valentine’s Day is a great holiday to remember to spoil the people we care for with kindness and love. I normally don’t decorate for Valentine’s Day but this year I wanted to add something special to our normal everyday decor. Instead of searching the dollar bins at the local chain store, I decided to make a banner of my own. I wanted it to say LOVE with a heart in-between each letter. If you’re like me, and you have never decorated for Valentine’s Day, this is a great little DIY to help you get started.
The supplies that I used to make the banner:
Wood Letters (L.O.V.E.)
3 Wood Hearts
Rosegold Craft Paint
Mint Craft Paint
Twine
Hot Glue
How To:
I thought the most difficult part of this craft was going to be finding letters and hearts that I actually liked. At first, I had metal letters in my head. I got to the craft store, and I found these wood letters. They are perfectly ornate and suitable to my taste. I love them! They are on the heavy side, and I will talk about the challenge that came with that later.
I painted the L.O.V.E. with rose gold craft paint. The copper craft paint is just a bit too orange for my taste, but the rose gold looks like my copper pots right after they have been cleaned. Beautiful! I applied three light coats of paint to get an even coverage on the letters. Next, it was time to paint the hearts. I went with a light mint craft paint, and it turned out perfect. At first, I was going to use pink but that’s not really my favorite color to decorate with so I figured I would give mint a try. Plus, it’s more suitable for my home, being that I live with four boys.
After the paint dried, I hot glued the back of each letter/heart to a string of twine.
I love how they turned out! At first, I was going to hang the banner on the mantle, but the letters were very heavy and kept spinning. I ended up stringing them across my seltzer bottle collection so the letters could lean against the bottles. And can I just say how much I love it like this!?!?! The rose gold letters against the blue bottles…perfection!!!
Whether you love to decorate for Valentine’s Day or maybe it’s new to you like it is to me, this is a perfect DIY craft to add a special one-of-a-kind Valentine’s Day touch that you and your family can enjoy.
